Aldan District
Aldan District is located on the road north from Tynda to Yakutsk. It is accessible by train or occasional shared taxis from the south and by occasional shared taxis from Yakutsk too. Nomadic Evenki reindeer herders live in Aldan District’s forests with herds of up to 3000 reindeer. Although in many ways they have preserved much less of their traditions than nomads in Anabar District or on the Yamal Peninsula, visiting them can still be interesting due to the large herd sizes and the fact that they do almost all of their herding work on wooden reindeer sledges rather than on snowmobiles. It is also logistically much easier than those Arctic regions, as it has public transport, a couple of accommodation options in Aldan town and does not require any special permits to visit.
